A suspect linked to the murder of Kiambu businessman George Mwangi has been detained for a week.

John Muikiriria Mwangi appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Merissa Opondo who detained him for seven days to allow police to complete investigations into the murder of the Rwanda-based engineer.

Muikiriria, who was arrested last week, had gone missing around the time his boss was murdered.

George Mwangi was the husband of Kiambu politician Gladys Chania Mwangi.

"After listening to the issues raised by the prosecution, I direct the suspect to be remanded at Muthaiga Police Station for seven days awaiting further directions by the court," ruled the magistrate.

The investigating officer Peter Kamau said Muikiriria was among the last persons to interact with George Mwangi and had access to his house.

He further stated that Muikiriria is the one who brought Morris Mbugua to replace him as a farmhand at the couple's home.
