Amani National Congress Party (ANC) has announced the nomination of Governor Issa Abdalla Timamy as the acting party leader.

This follows the appointment of Musalia Mudavadi as Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Speaking at the party's headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, ANC Secretary General Simon Gikuru said the decision will ensure that the party continues with normal operations at the grassroots and national level.

"We wish to state here that following the appointment of his excellency the former party leader Hon Musalia Mudavadi, the council bureau of Amani National Congress nominated Governor Issa Timamy of Lamu county to be the acting party leader, " said Mr Gikuru.

He said ANC will support the government to steer the Kenya Kwanza agenda of restoring the economic, social and political dignity of all Kenyans.

"Hon Mudavadi brings into office a robust legacy of great experience in statecraft buttressed by strong patriotic values, a culture of integrity and statesmanship demonstrated throughout his service to the nation and in his style of politics," he said.

The ANC leadership hailed President William Ruto for appointing Mudavadi saying it was a demonstration of the deep trust in his leadership aptitude and ideology.

They also called upon all Kenyans to put aside their political differences and support the President in developing the country.
