Order of events at William Ruto inauguration to follow 2013 script

Service Commanders - heads of Kenya Army, Kenya Navy and Kenya Airforce - are expected to arrive at the stadium at 10.30am to be followed by invited Heads of State and governments at 15 minutes later.

They will be followed by Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi and Chief Justice Martha Koome and Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi as well as Supreme Court judges.

Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua would follow at about 11.35am and President-elect William Ruto five minutes later.

President Kenyatta is expected to arrive at Kasarani at around 11.45 to be received by General Kibochi and escorted to the ceremonial Land-Rover to enter the stadium. After the National Anthem, Kenyatta will inspect the Guard of Honour.

The Judiciary will then take over the programme, with Amadi administering the oaths to Ruto and Gachagua. CJ Koome will serve as a witness.

Koome will introduce Ruto and Gachagua to the public. Ruto will take two oaths - one pledging allegiance to the Constitution and the second is the solemn affirmation of due execution of Office of President.

President Kenyatta will then hand over the instruments of power and authority to Ruto - the ceremonial military sword and the Constitution. The sword, and the 21-gun salute, are symbols used to signify power and authority.

This will be followed by the National Anthem during which Kenyatta's navy blue presidential standard will be lowered while Ruto's will be hoisted simultaneously.

It as this stage that KDF will unleash the 21-gun salute to Ruto as Kenyatta will be given his standard by the Chief of Defence Forces, signalling the end of an era as the Commander-In-Chief of KDF.

Gachagua will then take his two oaths, after which the Guard of Honour will march off the stadium.

According to the programme, one foreigner lead will be invited to speak on behalf of the foreign dignitaries present after which Kenyatta will be given to make his valedictory speech.

Gachagua will then deliver his speech as Deputy President and then invite Ruto to make his inaugural address. The swearing in of the two leaders is expected to be conducted before 2pm.
