Murder suspect Kimilili MP-elect Diidmus Barasa is being held at the Kisumu police station.
The Standard has established that the MP spent the night in Kisumu as detectives continue with the probe over the murder incident he has been linked to.
Police sources confided to The Standard that the embattled MP-elect was brought to the station by DCI officers from Bungoma who are leading investigations into the matter.
Confidential sources claim the weapon-a pistol that was allegedly used in the murder has already been confiscated from the MP and is undergoing ballistic examination.
A senior police officer confirmed that the MP was being held in Kisumu ahead of his arraignment in court in Bungoma.
The development came as attempts by the MP to get an anticipatory bail to bar the police from arresting him flopped.
The MP has been implicated in the fatal shooting of Brian Olunga, an aide of one of his competitors Brian Khaemba (DAP-K) in the just concluded polls where he emerged as the winner.
The police said Olunga succumbed to the gunshot wound while undergoing treatment at Kimilili sub-county hospital. The body was removed to the hospital's morgue.
