A taxi driver accused of inappropriately touching a Congolese diplomat has denied the charge.
Julius Kieti appeared before Makadara Chief Magistrate over claims that he touched the diplomat (KMB) against her will on May 30.
According to court records, the company Kieti worked for had been contracted to take the diplomat to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
On the material day, it is stated that the complainant had attended a conference in Nairobi then boarded Kieti’s vehicle from the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.
Court papers say that on the way to the airport, Kieti started touching the woman on her privates without her consent.
They further say that Kieti parked the vehicle by the roadside and jumped to the back seat where the woman was seated and continued touching her.
Kieti allegedly sat on the woman’s lap but she shoved him off.
She reported the incident to the Kenyan Embassy in DRC.
Kieti pleaded not guilty and was released on Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of a similar amount.
State counsel Nalemba Abene urged the court to hold the proceedings virtually since the diplomat had travelled back to DRC.
The case will be heard on September 1.
