Kenya's Covid-19 cases up by 799

Kenya has recorded 799 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The cases were from a sample size of 7,529, placing the positivity rate at 10.6 per cent.

From the cases 687 are Kenyans while 112 are foreigners, the Health ministry has said.

The cases also comprise 404 women and 395 men, with the youngest being a one-year-old child and the oldest aged 74.

Kenya's total confirmed positive cases are now 257,614 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,902,294.

In terms of county distribution, CS Mutahi Kagwe said Nairobi is leading with 60 per cent of the total recorded cases with 539 cases followed by Kiambu 57, Nakuru 56, Kericho 30, Machakos 10, Kakamega 9, Narok 8, Nyeri 8, and Mombasa 7, among others.

Some 205 patients recovered from the disease, 179 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while 26 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Kagwe said the total recoveries now stand at 249,009, of whom 200,962 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, and 48,047 are from various health facilities countrywide.

One patient has succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,350.

The Health ministry added that 147 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,358 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

"Another 41 patients are on supplemental oxygen  ... no patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)."

Kagwe said as of yesterday, more than 8.4 million vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, more than five million had been partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were more than 3.3 million.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.1 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 12.3 per cent.
