Covid-19: Kenya’s positivity rate now at 2.4pc

Some 144 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours.

The cases are from a sample size of 5,897. The positivity rate is now at 2.4 per cent. From the cases 129 are Kenyans while 15 are foreigners. Eighty-one are men and 63 are women.

The youngest is a seven-year-old child while the oldest is 89 years. The total confirmed positive cases are now 255,796 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,874,395.

As of yesterday, more than 7.8 million vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, more than 4.8 million were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were more than 3.1 million.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.5 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 11.4 per cent. The statement from the Health ministry says the government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

So far, more than 5.1 million persons have received at least one dose, out of the target population of 27,246,033.

In terms of county distribution, Nairobi led by 85, followed by Kisii 8, Trans Nzoia 8, Nakuru 6, Kiambu 4, Machakos 4, Kajiado 4, Uasin Gishu 3, and Kericho 3.

Seven patients have recovered from the disease, with six from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme, while one is from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 248,480 of whom 200,507 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 47,973 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Two patients have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,339.

A total of 204 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 833 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme. Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.
