A senior police officer who was arrested on Tuesday over sodomy allegations will spend five more days in custody after the prosecution pleaded for more time to conclude their investigations.
Chief Inspector Mr John Marete who until his arrest was in charge of Mitheru Police Post in Maara Sub-County appeared before Chief magistrate John Njoroge, who granted the prosecution more time after the former said he had no objection to the request
Prosecution side told the court that their initial investigations had indicated that there was a syndicate on the sodomy issue and therefore needed time to unearth it.
“Following their request and non-objection from the defense side, I grant the prosecution five more days to conclude on their investigations,” said Mr Njoroge.
The accused will be held at Chuka Police Station awaiting the mention of his case on December 29.
The officer was arrested on suspicion of sodomising minors aged between 14-15 years and two young adults aged between 18-19 years.
Authorities led by Maara Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Jarso conducted the operation in collaboration with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal investigations, following a a tip-off by members of public.
