Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's proposal to scrap term limit for governors has been opposed by Eastern leaders.
Chama Cha Uzalendo National Organising Secretary Davis Musau and the Machakos County Kanu Secretary Peter Kioko said Kalonzo’s views, aired during a media interview, were in bad taste.
Speaking separately, they said although it was within his right to speak, the proposal would cause confusion and antagonise Kenyans.
“Scrapping the governors' term limit would work against those aspiring for the seat since the incumbents would use resources at their disposal to block rivals,” said Mr Musau adding it it would be breach of the law.
“Removing the term limit will make these governors kings given the nature of African leadership and especially at this time when there's a proposal to increase funds allocation to the counties by 35 per cent,” said Mr Kioko.
The leaders urged Kalonzo to reconsider the proposal.
“With cases of embezzlement of funds and poor delivery, few will buy the proposal,” said Musau.
