A Nairobi pharmacist has been accused of stealing a baby from a mother who delivered in his clinic. Stanley Mutisya is said to have helped Mary Mumbua deliver on July 24 at his clinic in Kwera area, Nairobi.

The court heard that after the delivery, Mr Mutisya took the baby boy to another room to clean him and cut the umbilical chord. Ms Mumbua testified that she never saw the baby again.

Mutisya allegedly told her the baby had died and he had given the body to a street family to dispose it. Mumbua said when she tried to confront Mutisya over the death claims, he turned violent.

She reported the matter to the police one month later after she recovered from birth complications.

Mutisya appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Steven Jalang’o at the Makadara law courts last Friday. He denied the accusations.

He was released on a Sh200,000 bond after pleading with the court for lenient bail terms. The next hearing was set for December 5.
