A security guard at a city club has been charged with assaulting a senator and daughter of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

David Kombo (above) appeared at Makadara law courts yesterday charged with attacking Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip and Agnes Saumu Mbuvi at Mephis Lounge within Kasarani division, Nairobi.

He denied the charge and was freed on cash bail of Sh30,000.

The court heard that the senator and Saumu went the hotel on June 2 to watch UEFA champions’ league where they stayed until 2am when they decided to leave.

At the gate, Saumu is said to have excused herself to visit washrooms where the accused followed her and grabbed her top, tearing it.

Saumu reportedly screamed for help and the senator rushed to rescue her.

The accused, the court was told, locked himself in one of the rooms after noticing presence of Anwar.

The police said the senator in company of Saumu left in huff and before they could get into the car, they were attacked security men armed with clubs, including accused.

Saumu was hit on her right shoulder and elbow while trying to shield Anwar from being hit on the head.

The accused was arrested two days after the incident and charged. The police are still hunting other assailants who fled.

Anwar is yet to record a statement since he is still at Agha Khan Hospital in critical condition. Saumu was treated and discharged.

The case will be heard on September 20.
