Bungoma, Kimilili town roads to get facelift

Roads in Bunguma and Kimilili towns will be upgraded courtesy of a conditional grant from the the World Bank.

World Bank has given Bungoma Sh300 million grant for road projects expected to be completed in the next six months.

Already a contractor has been picked to construct the roads.

Speaking during a public participation forum at the Bungoma Kenya Industrial Estates Hall yesterday, Roads and Infrastructure Chief Officer Morris Marango said the roads, which will cut through the major towns, will have a carriageway of between seven to eight metres, with pedestrian and cyclists paths.

Improving drainage

Mr Marango said the project would also involve improving drainage in Bungoma town.

Lands and Urban Planning Executive Bramwel Murgor said the project had a set of conditions, which if not met will see the bank withdraw the funding.

Mr Murgor said those involved in the construction of the roads should ensure they adhere to the strict conditions set.
