Kiraitu denies that majority of county employees are from his clan

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has refuted claims that most of the county employees hired after he took charge are from his clan.

Speaking at a local Full Gospel Church, Kiraitu said his detractors were fighting him barely two years after he took over from former Governor Peter Munya.

He denied claims by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, EALA MP Mpuru Aburi and Munya that he (Kiraitu) was keen on hiring employees, especially in the county executive, from his “Abogeta” clan.

Kiraitu also rejected the findings of the Auditor General that 88 per cent of the county employees were hired from a dominant ethnic community.

The governor also accused Mr Linturi, who addressed the county assembly last week, of malice. In his address to MCAs, the senator blamed the Kiraitu-led administration of misusing public funds.

Munya and Aburi, while speaking at a Catholic Church in Mikinduri on Saturday, invited the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate queries raised by the Auditor General in his 2017/2018 report.
