A hand cart puller has been jailed for six months after pleading guilty of snatching a mobile phone belonging to a police officer attached to Kariokor Chief’s camp and throwing it into Nairobi river.
The court heard that on 23rd March, the Administration Police officer was walking along Race Course road when Mohamed Ali Hassan, 32, inched closer and snatched the mobile phone valued at Sh15,000 while he was making a call.
The officer gave him a chase but the accused was so fast that the victim had to mobilize motorbike riders to help him trace him.
Mohamed is said to have stopped along Nairobi River and dropped the phone into the dirty water.
He was then arrested but the phone could not be traced in what was believed to be a trick to conceal the evidence.
After pleading to the charges, the magistrate ruled; “It is sad that one cannot confidently communicate with phone without worrying of it being stolen, I then sentence you to six months imprisonment and one thief on the street will be out.”
