Former SONU vice-chairperson Irene Kendi, who once deputised Babu Owino, been a Jubilee force in Meru County.
In June this year, Kendi came under sharp criticism on social media as she vowed to abstain from sex until the party leader Uhuru Kenyatta secured another term in office alongside Mithika Linturi as the Senator for Meru County.
"I will not have sex from today until Uhuru becomes the president again and Linturi the senator for Meru County starting now," Kendi wrote on her Facebook page in June.
Luckily, Kendi’s long wait to let go the nearly three months go slow on intercourse as she had undertaken openly to her thousands of online friends and followers might have neared dawn when Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the President elect by IEBC on Friday 11.
Kendi unfortunately might have missed a chance to celebrate Uhuru’s victory in the special way she would have desired to as she met the cruel reality of the death of her mother in a road accident.
“Losing a mother is the worst nightmare for every child. My mom is among those who succumbed to the grisly Meru road accident today. It will remain a dark moment for me and my family forever. Why now dear Lord?” She posted on Facebook, just hours after the declaration of the presidential results.
Her mother perished in the accident that also claimed the lives of eight other people at Ngon’yi area along Meru- Nkubu road on Saturday.
Kendi’s mother has joined other relatives who were going for a dowry negotiations ceremony, ruracio in Chuka from Maua.
The Kenya Red Cross society took the other six people who had been injured in the accident to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital after the matatu they were traveling in collided head-on with a lorry.
On breaking the news to her friends, Kendi received over 2000 emotive condolences messages just hours after she thanked Meru residents for allowing Jubilee party another term as president and seemingly voting in the leaders she pitched for in the County’s administration.
“I take this great opportunity to thank everyone who played a role in one way or another towards Uhuru Kenyatta's and our able county government top leadership reelection. My sincere gratitude to Meru Queens who spent sleepless nights to ensure that there was no stone left unturned. To all youths and women, thank you. Every time we spoke to you, you listened to us and saw light. I am indebted to you as a person because without you we would not have made it. Thank you Meru and Kenyans at large,”
