Marked ballot papers in Bungoma? IEBC clears the air

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared all ballot papers likely to be found unstamped as invalid ahead of the Tuesday 8, August elections.

The electoral body’s CEO Ezra Chiloba has urged returning officers to validate and notify all presiding officers immediately they come across such ballots.

The commission on Saturday also dismissed claims that marked ballot papers had been found in Bungoma, terming it as fake news while the assured the country that all ballots papers were secure.

In a statement on Saturday the commission opened up on election results accessibility to the media and the public.

The media will have special access to the poll results through a link issued on Saturday before relaying them through their broadcast platforms.

“We are expanding the capacity of our website to enhance public access of polls results. Media houses will be given the link by 5pm,” announced IEBC on Saturday.

Media houses that delayed seeking accreditation for covering the elections were also given an assurance of getting a go ahead timely enough as the commission prepares to complete distribution of election materials on Monday.

On Saturday there were claims that ballot papers marked in favour of a Jubilee candidate in Bungoma had been impounded but this has since turned out to to be dismissed as fake news since no further detail could confirmed the reports that were already raising fears among the electorate.
