Jubilee Party has made further clarification on the decision that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto snub debates on July 10 and 17 respectively pointing fingers once again to the organisers.
The party Secretary General Raphael Tuju in an interview at a local station on Tuesday morning linked the decision to US model of debating political candidates.
He said like in the US, organisers inform participants all that the debate will entail, who the moderators were and if either of the involved parties were scratchy on the moderators for their own reasons an option of discussing to have changes is considered.
“Wanafaa kueleza watazamaji waendeshaji ni kina nani na nani aliyewachagua ni nani,”
(They are supposed to tell viewers who the moderators are and who chose them)
Tuju revealed that the party raised the concerns but were not responded to hence the decision to have the leaders skip the event.
Debates Media Limited organized the debates for presidential candidates and their running mates slotting them for two separate days with each category getting an allocation of two sessions.
On July 24, presidential candidates are expected to show up for the debate.
On Monday only one presidential candidate’s running mate participated in the exercise.
Mr Muthiora Kariara showed for the first session debate against the absent three other running mates as the organisers declared a no show for DP William Ruto and NASA’s Kalonzo Musyoka who is said to be out of the country.
