The use of ICT services in Kenya continues to experience exponential growth as individuals, the public and private sector widen internet usage.

The Kenya Economic Survey, 2017 records a sharp rise of Internet usage as a result of an increase in fiber cable connections in the country.

The chart shows the number of estimated Internet users in Kenya from 2012 to 2016 increased rapidly. There was an increase of 3.8 million Internet users between 2015 and 2016 to represent 10.7 per cent. This is 87.4 per cent of the population.

The highest increase in the number of internet users was recorded between 2014 and 2015 at 9.4 million users to represent 35.9 per cent.

APPROACHING SATURATION

According to the Economic Survey, however, 2016 portrays a slower increase rate. This slowdown may be attributed to approaching saturation in internet use in the market.

Between 2012 and 2013, there was a significant increase of 7.7 million internet users. This represents a 57 per cent increase

The current number of internet users is almost three times what it was in the past five years. Over the five-year period, there has been an increase of 25.8 million users in Kenya.
