Despite the ongoing lecturers and university staff strike, the government through a gazette notice by the Inter-Universities' Councils Consultative Forum (IPUCCF) has said a total of Sh4.775 was released to all public universities last week.
The notice states that the funds were for distribution among the various cadres of staff members basing on a formula that had been agreed on by the KUDHEIHA,KUSU,UASU and the Joint Negotiations Committee.
Acoording to the notice, the concluded 2023-2017 collective bargaining agreement negotiations ended with an accepted stand that the union members would be paid the allotted government funds totaling to Sh10 Billion.
"The amount paid is a good proportion of the Sh10 Billion the government promised to release towards the CBAs.The public universities have confirmed having received these funds in their respective bank accounts and are in the process of disbursing them to individual staff members," reads the public notice.The IPUCCF chairman undersigned notice says the government is fully committed to meet its end of the bargain and urges unions involved to accept it as a positive gesture by the government as they wait for the release of the remaining amount as agreed in the CBA.
