With less than five months to the August polls, many aspiring politicians have expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which their political parties plan to conduct party primaries. According to the Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), all political parties are required to conduct nominations next month.

However, due to vested interests, a political storm seems to be brewing in many parties over nomination procedures. As we speak, many parties have experienced steady hemorrhage of disgruntled aspirants.

Favouritism, nepotism and tribalism in parties seem to be the order of the day, denying financially handicapped candidates papers.

Regrettably, electioneering in Kenya has become a cut-throat (sometimes literally) competition.

Some politicians are determined to fight tooth and nail to avoid political extinction and obscurity.

If the 2013 nominations are anything to go by, chances of irregularities and malpractices in the forthcoming nominations are inevitable.

The IEBC dispute resolution committee must brace itself for petitions likely to occur after nominations.

Let political parties conduct their affairs in a credible, free, fair and transparent manner in order to boost voter confidence.
