Corruption still a huge challenge

While I commend President Uhuru Kenyatta for his State of the Nation address in Parliament last Wednesday, it is an inalienable fact that there is room for improvement after four years in office.

That 50 per cent of the wage bill, which is close to Sh600 billion, goes to salaries and allowances is quite saddening.

Notably, since the Jubilee administration assumed power, it has been grappling with issues of a ballooning public wage bill.

Although the President is advocating for a pay cut for all political leaders, the truth is that issues such as unsound public financial management and waste of public funds were not mentioned.

Corruption has remained an incurable malignant disease.
