HIV and Aids has really caused havoc to many families in Kenya. Several researches have been done to counter the increasing cases of the disease for many years.
On this note, the Government of Kenya has now adopted a possible solution to help those who are HIV negative and risk getting infected. It has introduced a drug which will be taken daily by HIV-negative people who think they are at risk of being infected with HIV.
Speaking to the press on Monday the head of National AIDS and STI control programme (NASCOP)Dr. Martin sirengo, said that those exposed to HIV risks by taking this anti retroviral drug will reduce their chances of being infected.
The drug by the name Pre-exposure Prophylaxis will only be taken by those above the age of 15 years after being tested in a public hospital and the results proved to be negative.
According to him if the drug is taken as required, it is bound to significantly reduce the risk of getting HIV especially after coming into contact with infected person.
This comes as a relief to the victim of sexual violence, those in the course of having sex realise that the condom burst, those who engage in transactional sex and those who have multiple sex partners.
Kenya becomes the second African country to embrace the programme. In Africa, south Africa was the first one to use the drug.
