He lives under the footbridge. Every morning as you head to work, he’ll be there, covered in a transparent polythene bag. You don’t give a thought about him as you switch to your boss, the workplace. How you have to wake up early, sit in traffic and worry being reprimanded for being late. But these are worries that street families don’t have. These worries are so exotic to them. Theirs is only about survival. Every time the sun rises they wonder where to get food.
Awhile back, you saw this street kid crying uncontrollably after seeing a woman who walks around with oxygen equipment in order to live. You were in a bar, sipping your brandy and for the first time you contemplate seriously about stopping it. But then you wanted to forget job hassles, love issues, and state related stress-inducing agents.
A few weeks later, you see the news that he’s (the crying street boy) been adopted. You marvel then recall the lessons you’d have learnt, that every time you want to visit the bar you use them as a deterrent.
Your problems are no worse
If all the problems in the world are mixed together and everyone is asked to pick a piece, there’s no guessing that you’ll prefer the devil you know. The truth is people are going through a lot of problems; health wise, relationships… some you can’t just name all of them.
There are angels out there
God has angels around us. The media don’t want them because it has programmed the society to want the bad news. You’ve once had this crazy idea that there’s a little god in each one us. And it has proved to be true. The little boy has been adopted and the Samaritan who took the responsibility of taking the woman to hospital when everyone shunned her, including her husband, an angel too.
Your loved ones can desert you
Watching the clip of the woman, struggling to live through life support machines after her lungs failed, you can’t help but appreciate people who have never deserted you. They would, love doesn’t mean a thing when they can’t take it anymore. But they can take everything; they’ll stick with you through the hell you are going through.
Appreciate your life
So you indulge in lifestyles that beckon diseases such as cancer, stroke, name them. You love drinking, smoking, and doing other drugs. At some point in the near future, your body won’t take it anymore and your organs collapse. You will writhe in pain as you regret the life you’ve led.
Before everything crumbles, appreciate your life. Some are on life support machines not because they invited it. Don’t indulge in lifestyles that will ruin your health.
Be good to others
And lastly be nice to others. it doesn’t cost a thing but it might save a life. You don’t know what tomorrow holds. You could be the one in need.
