President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken a record in Kenya as the most traveling president in the history of the country. A recent study showed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has made more foreign trips in his three years tenure compared to the ten years of Mwai Kibaki in office. If he is not attending the Independence Day in Ghana, Uhuru is attending the heads of East African states in Tanzania, or he is in Addis Ababa attending the AU heads of states. When not in Africa, President Uhuru is in Israel or China or Japan or Australia for a state visit many of which have minor economic importance to the nation.
All these foreign trips are made at the expense of the Kenyan Tax Payers’ money. President Kenyatta is, therefore, burdening Kenyans with all these money, which should be directed to something more important to the nation and its citizens.
Our neighbor Tanzanian president John Pombe Magufuli should be an icon to emulate. Since rising to power, the Tanzanian president has managed to save millions of money through his policies. He abolished the celebrations of the nation’s Independence Day and used the money to buy beds for a hospital. Apart from this, Mr. Magufuli has been involved in numerous activities that aim at reducing the expenses in the nation. He scraped off all the non-essential foreign travels.
Recently, Nigerian President was in the country and he has also employed a vast number of ways in saving the economy. Muhammadu Buhari has been able to rescue more than a million shillings through his integrity and transparency. He is trying to reduce the spending so as to meet the budget of the country.
On the contrary, President Uhuru Kenyatta is overspending on the foreign trips. In the last two weeks, He has made four foreign trips. Basically, he has no time to sit down and deliver on the promises he made in the Jubilee manifesto. So of what importance does it bring to the nation? Can these foreign trips help reduce the wage bill of the nation?
