St Joseph's Boys and St Brigid’s Girls High were the top schools in the county in last year’s national exams.
St Joseph's led the pack in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams with a mean score of 11.02, an improvement from 10.00 in 2014.
The school’s Timothy Kisaka, who scored 84 points, was also the best student in the county.
St Brigid's Girls emerged second with a mean score of 10.3, down from 10.5 in 2014.
Mrs Inovalata Lokirito, the school head, said the results are motivating and attributed the slight drop to the teachers’ strike last year.
St Anthony's Boys High School, one of the top academic giants in the county, suffered a blow after 259 candidates who sat the 2015 exams had their results cancelled.
Most of the 264 former candidates had their Biology and Physics results cancelled after the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) established some irregularities.
Students and parents whose sons sat the exams were shocked after learning of the cancellation of the results.
Two other students at Trans Nzoia Mixed Secondary School also had their results cancelled.
County Director Education Joseph Wamocho praised St. Josephs Boys, St Brigid’s Girls, Friends Bwake Secondary and St Teresa Boys Bikeke for being among the top performing schools in the county.
Wamocho challenged teachers to exercise integrity in the management of exams by “sticking to the rules of the game” saying it was wasteful for parents, students and the government when results are cancelled.
Some of St Brigid’s Girls’ star performers, Christine Irungu Njeri and Diana Nyambura Njoroge, thanked their parents and teachers for their support.
Christine scored grade A of 84 points while Diana had an A- of 79 points.
