Kakamega, Kenya: Parents of newborns at Kakamega Hospital maternity ward have vowed to name their children after Pope Francis, who is in Kenya on a three day visit.
Kakamega County Referral Hospital maternity ward recorded 13 new births since Wednesday 4.30pm when Shepherd One touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Excited mothers at the hospital said they will name their children after the Pope saying they wish their children to have characters similar to those of the catholic president, who is visiting Africa for the first time.
Immaculate Katiechi delivered her baby boy at 1.00am and named the child Pope Devin but she also wanted to name him Francis to take all the names used by Pope Francis.
"Francis is a beautiful name with deep history and very significant as the Pope has visited Kenya. It is worthy being considered in naming children, who will be a blessing to the society, "Katiechi said.
Even though some of the mothers did not have a clue on who the Pope is, they vowed to name their children after him saying they want the children to be famous and successful like the Pope.
"I want my son to be blessed and famous like the Pope himself. I want him also to touch the lives of many people across the world," said one of the mothers.
She said she will use the name because of its uniqueness and attributes which the Pope Francis have like conserving the environment, promoting peace, love and unity in the world.
