Preparations are already in top gear for the upcoming Papal visit on 25th November 2015. Pope Francis is set to address issues on peace, inclusivity, religious tolerance, the fight against poverty among other things before addressing the nation at Kasarani Stadium on his final day in the country on the 27th of November.
The visit comes at the backdrop of a visit by the POTUS in August which left a lasting legacy as is expected of Pope’s visit.
But of more concern is the wind of change which we expect to see effective after his departure. Just like in the US where the Congress Speaker resigned after a meeting with the Pope, we expect to see some of our leaders make an attempt to absolve themselves of their misdeeds either by resigning or taking full responsibility of their actions.
We as a country are faced with a legion of problems ranging from corruption, tribalism, nepotism, massive wastage of public resources, a crippling education sector, exams leakage, leaders spewing hatred and inciting Kenyans against each other and other countless issues threatening to enslave this country in a labyrinth of poverty.
While we all know that it is wrong for human beings to wait for an auspicious time to change their behaviors or ways of life, we hope that by taking the Papal visit as the turnaround point to wash our sins and repent. The Pope’s visit should be used as the pivot point to turn around the economy as well as the well-being of our country.
