KDF troops in Somalia have dropped guard

The report by the United Nations that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops are behind the illegal importation of sugar from Brazil through Kismayu, Somalia, into Kenya could be the reason why free-wheeling Al Shabaab militants are gaining ground.

The report follows an earlier one which also blamed KDF for perpetrating the sales of charcoal in the country.

This comes at a time when the KDF commander just recently warned that the number of young teenagers being recruited to the terror group is on the rise.

Perhaps it is time we looked for an exit plan and bring our soldiers back before they embarrass this country more.

For KDF troops to command such a booming business as charcoal and sugar could mean there is a conspiracy between soldiers and terrorists. You never know since they are all human beings.

It is impossible for KDF to run business in Kenya, especially through Kismayu, with Al Shabaab having mounted roadblocks almost everywhere in Somalia.

Or Al Shabaab is completely wiped out, which I doubt.

But if it is true that Somalia is so safe to do business, then why can’t we leave it alone.

Instead of our Government officials looking into these reports, all they do is deny deny, deny. Which explains why this insurgency will never end until we stop illegal trade by KDF troops and enact an exit plan to pull out of Somalia.
