Kenyan legislators have now become spiritual leaders

Their aggressive and war-like behaviour is legendary.

They have been described as a selfish lot, clowns who have no vision.

But today our legislators are not only leaders, but spiritual leaders.

Forget the incessant confrontation and name calling, today they call on God in serious prayers.

Their piousness might look misplaced, but their heart is right.

During prayer rallies for Deputy President William Ruto and radio presenter Joshua arap Sang, they try to outdo each other on who can direct the best insult at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Like the hypocrites Jesus talks about, our MPs love to pray in full glare of everybody.

They say private prayers are not answered and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale is even interested in who is present or absent during the prayers.

So serious are the prayers that those who miss them will be prayed out in the 2017 elections. Never mind that the prayers are only in Rift Valley and Central regions.

God cannot hear their prayers in 'non-Jubilee' zones.

Yet if you ask the Duales, Murkomens, Waititus and Keters, God actually answers the prayers.

How else would you explain the confessions in Moses Kuria's outbursts?

Only potent prayers can make human rights defender like Ken Wafula call for the termination of the cases.

Only prayers from righteous individuals like Murkomen and company would make Raila Odinga and his brother Oburu Oginga be willing to testify at The Hague-based court on behalf of the deputy President.

With such leaders, let's relax. We are safe. Are we?
