Huge potholes on the Ruiru-Githunguri-Uplands road in Kiambu County have for decades terrorised motorists. Efforts by residents to have the road rehabilitated have been futile as leaders give empty promises. On several occasions locals have held demonstrations, even inserted banana stems on the potholes, praying that someone will hear their cries.
The area has a huge agricultural potential especially for dairy and cash crop farming. But farmers and traders cannot access markets sometimes. When it rains the road becomes impassible. Farm produce goes bad awaiting transportation to markets. Road Prefect understands that plans to tarmack a section of the road are on the cards. But the project will start at Uplands and end at Kwamaiko. This means the section to Ruiru will be left out. Keep praying.
