KENYA: The proposal by renowned writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o and ODM leader Raila Odinga that MCAs can use local languages during assembly sessions is not possible in urban areas.

Counties like Nairobi, Mombasa and  Nakuru, among other cosmopolitan regions, cannot effectively use local languages since they are composed of multi-ethnic groups.

Kenya is made up of diverse tribes and the only way to end tribalism and ethnicity is by using English and Kiswahili.

Let us not condemn English because it is the language of instruction in our schools.
