Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has raised concern over mushrooming private schools funded by international organisations.
Speaking in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, during the Knut Koibatek branch executive meeting over the weekend, Mr Sossion said the quality of education in some private schools was poor.
“The ordinary private schools that we know of are doing well and we have no issue with them, but now there are private schools that are not following the approved curriculum and they are meant to deceive the poor,” Sossion said.
He warned parents not to take their children to such schools, adding that they do not have qualified teachers. Sossion said the schools charge lower fees to deceive parents.
“Some of them are training teachers in Naivasha for just three months, they are using unqualified teachers and they are claiming to offer cheap and affordable education,” he said.
