Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale has called on residents of the North Eastern region to support the Government initiatives to combat terrorism in the region by according support to the new regional coordinator Mohamed Saleh and other top security officers.
Addressing the residents in Garissa town on Sunday, Mr Duale said top administrators and security chiefs cannot succeed in the war against the Somalia-based criminal elements and locals need to offer maximum co-operation to the security agencies.
WORST ATTACK
The Garissa Township MP whose constituency suffered the worst terror attack last month in which 148 people were killed at Garissa University College, said the security of the nation starts with individuals.
Duale said the North Eastern parliamentary group and Cabinet secretaries had made several recommendations to the President that he said would go a long way in ensuring security is restored in the region in the near future.
“We believe the appointment of Mohamed Saleh, who is credited for eradicating the shifta menace in our region, is a move in the right direction,” he said.
Those appointed to head the region’s security in the aftermath of Garissa University killings include Mr Saleh, James Kianda (county commissioner) Shadrack Maithya (county police commander), Rashid Yussuf (county AP commandant) and Abdullahi Galgallo (Garissa deputy commissioner).
At the same time, Duale told the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to prosecute those who were named in the graft “list of shame” as the 60 days deadline has passed.
He said both the EACC and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have no alternative but to prosecute those linked to various corruption allegations so as to give the fight against the vice momentum.
