Nairobi, Kenya - It is yet another time Form Four leavers are making choices from the vast courses offered in colleges and universities. Joining a higher learning institution is the most anticipated thing by many.
Absolute care ought to be taken when making this grand transition, especially when choosing the kind of institution and course.
There are unrecognised institutions that offer unaccredited courses whose agenda is to make profit. The result is that many may never be recognised in the job market.
Once you get an institution that offers the course you want, ascertain that it is registered and recognised by the Government before making a decision. Keep off false and misleading advice.
There used to be a notion that if you want to join campus, choose popular courses like engineering, medicine or law. That is not true. Courses offered by our universities and colleges are meant to make all-rounded citizens. If everyone wants to be a doctor, engineer and lawyer, then who will be the plumber or mason?
We must not overlook other courses, they are indeed the best and easy.
While growing up we were told to imitate our parents. If your father was a teacher, then the society also expected you to be a teacher. The time for that is over.
You must, therefore, not limit yourself to a few number of courses. Do not go for something you don‘t want. Best of luck.
