Kisumu,Kenya: Did you know that in some areas of the country nominated women MPs are mockingly referred to as 'Bonga Points'? The revelation was made at the devolution conference by National Gender and Equality Commission Chairperson Winnie Lichuma while pleading with voters to elect women candidates to spare them the agony of nomination.
Discussion on achievement of the one-third gender principle degenerated into what Council of Governors Chairman Isaac Ruto described as a "metaphysical arena." He urged discussants to instead focus on the more real and practical solution to the problem at hand.
"We have no answers why women love men more and why men love women. Those are purely metaphysical discussions," he said.
