Aid: South Korea pledges more cash to Kenya

NAIROBI: South Korea has said it will help Kenya fulfil its Vision 2030 goals by financing a number of development projects through its aid agency, Korea International Co-operation Agency (Koica).

“Koica Kenya focuses its assistance on a number of development programmes, which include water, education, infrastructure and basic human needs,” the agency’s new resident representative Eunsub Kim said.

He added that Koica, which started operations in Kenya in 1991, plans to increase its overseas development aid to Kenya through investment in more socio-economic development programmes.

South Korea also hopes to share with Kenya its best practices, which saw it grow from one of the poorest countries in the world to one of the most economically advanced.

“The know-how and experience Korea gained from this transition are invaluable assets that Koica uses to efficiently support sustainable socio-economic development in its partner countries, and offer hope for a better world,” Mr Kim said.

He added that the overall objective Koica has in the country is to help build capacity to overcome poverty and improve the quality of life.
