Teso; Kenya: Standard Eight pupils of Ang’aro Primary school in Teso North sub-County may be forced to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams in the open after a storm destroyed their classrooms over the weekend.
More than 110 pupils have been forced to go back home as the school administration ponders the next move.
"We have sent Standard Six and Seven pupils home. But when they resume they will have to learn under trees as we have no option,” the school deputy headteacher Paul Imo said.
Mr Imo said about Sh3 million is needed to put up three classrooms and to renovate two others which were destroyed by the storm.
This comes just one week after heavy rains destroyed three classrooms, two latrines, a kitchen and an administration bloc at Kawalun Primary School also in Teso North.
Angurai East Ward Representative Moses Mamai appealed to the local constituency development fund committee, the county and national governments to help rebuild the school saying the situation will be critical in January when schools reopen.
“The wind also blew off the roof of school neighbour Rosa Omuse, who is currently living in the kitchen and also needs humanitarian assistance,” Mr Mamai said.
