Governor Sospeter Ojaamong to run for President in 2022 election

Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, who is also the first MP to win two terms as a Teso legislator, has revealed he will vie for the presidency on the expiry of his second term in 2022.

"God is taking me to occupy President Uhuru Kenyatta's seat when his constitutional second term expires in 2022, and I believe that it is possible," Mr Ojaamong was quoted saying.

He was speaking at the weekend when he commissioned five new classrooms at Ekisegere Primary School in Malaba. The classes were built by Community Development Trust Fund at a cost of Sh5.1 million.

He reiterated that his push for the Pesa Mashinani referendum came even as a parliamentary committee indicated allocations to all counties would be increased to Sh400 billion, up from the controversial Sh226 billion.

"The Pesa Mashinani push was not meant to fail Uhuru's administration but rather to have more funds at the grassroots in a bid to make devolution a reality," Ojaamong said.

Public Accounts Committee chairman Ababu Namwamba said the allocations would be based on the 2013-2014 financial year.
