Kisumu, Kenya: One person was killed while another is nursing injuries after they were electrocuted in Riat Kisumu city.
The two Edwin Omondi and Alex Ochieng were mounting a water tank in a one storey building which is a few meters from main electric power line when the incident occurred.
Festus Olang who was also working at the site said the two were erecting the tank on top of the building when a metal rode slipped and connected with the main power line.
‘‘I heard a huge bang and suddenly there were sparks. When I looked down, I saw two of my colleagues thrown on the ground,’’ said Olang.
‘‘And when I reached them, Ochieng was severely injured and we rushed him to Nyanza Provincial General Hospital (NPGH) where he was confirmed dead on arrival,’’ added Olang.
According to an eye witness David Odhiambo, the two were seen on top of the building but moments later dropped to the ground after the sparks.
The owner of the building Margaret Owuor said the two were working on her building at the time of the incident.
Area residents blamed the owner of the house for continuing to construct the building even after being marked for demolition by the Kenya Railways Services Company.
Omondi is nursing injuries at Port Florence Hospital.
