After Monica Kangwiri was severely burnt with hot water by her husband (a pastor at the God’s Power Church in Kiwanjani, Isiolo) last week, she has not only forgiven him but is also pleading with him — currently on the run — to return to home.

After the gruesome ordeal, she was admitted at the Isiolo Level 4 Hospital with burns on her face and legs.

Upon her return from hospital, Monica was shocked to find out that her husband had deserted their home. He disappeared to an unknown destination with virtually everything that was in the homestead, including chicken and her own clothes. He left her with only the clothes she wore during the battering incident.

Heinous

She said that it hurts her even more, to know that her children have never reported to school since the heinous act was perpetrated upon her. That no one neither knows nor has a clue of her husband and children’s whereabouts, depresses her a lot.

Speaking at their home in Mwangaza area in Isiolo, after being discharged from the hospital, she said she didn’t know where to restart her life, without knowing the whereabouts of her three young children.

She pleaded with her husband, Pastor Francis Kirimi, to bring them back together with her clothing, which he went away with.

Man of god

Pastor Kirimi went mad on her one night after she used the Sh140 that he had given her to settle an outstanding bill. The man of God had asked her to pay a debt at a nearby shop only for her to buy foodstuffs for supper.

The furious man of cloth used the boiling water she was to use for cooking rice to ‘punish’ her by inflicting burns on her face and legs. And as if that was enough, he proceeded to hit her on the leg with a stool.

Neigbours rushed her to a nearby hospital when her husband fled with their children for fear of being arrested by police to whom the incident had been reported. Monica added that she still loves the runaway pastor and urged him to bring back their children. She called upon bodies fighting for women rights to come to her rescue, to protect her and fellow women who experience such mistreatment silently at the hands of their husbands.
