At least seven people tragically lost their lives when a Toyota Probox collided head-on with a trailer along the Kericho-Nakuru highway on Monday evening.

The trailer which was travelling towards Kericho from Nakuru, collided with the Probox, causing it to split into two upon impact during the 7.15pm crash.

A male survivor from the Probox sustained serious injuries and was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent medical attention.

Florence Boke, an emergency response officer from Kericho County, said the seven victims died at the scene.

“Three road accident victims were thrown to the tarmac, while four of the bodies were trapped inside the wreckage of the Toyota vehicle,” she said.

An eyewitness, Joash Bor, who was travelling to his home in Chepsir at the time of the incident, recounted the horrifying moments leading up to the collision.

Bor described how he witnessed the Probox attempt to overtake a vehicle ahead of it before colliding head-on with the oncoming trailer.

“The vehicle was cut into two, and the bodies hurled out of the wreckage. I have never witnessed such an accident before," he remarked.

Bor further alleged that both vehicles were travelling at high speeds just moments before the collision occurred.

"The trailer dragged the Toyota Probox along the road for at least 70 meters," he said.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kericho County Hospital Mortuary.
