Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Senator Okiya Omtata were among the dignitaries honoured at the 2024 Peace Gala for their exemplary skills in dispute resolution.

Interior Permanent Secretary Raymond Omollo was also recognized at this inaugural event by the Certified Mediators and Advisory Board (CMA).

The event's founder, Ms Evelyn Bright, stressed the importance of leaders upholding values and rejecting hate speech, a growing issue among political opponents.

"Hate speech not only undermines democracy but also perpetuates violence and division," she stated.

In a bid to curb hate speech by political figures, CMA pledged to engage with society and work alongside leaders to enhance social governance.

The organisation also aims to empower the next generation with skills to manage disputes peacefully through Alternative Dispute Resolutions (ADRs), particularly in schools.

Other notable figures were recognized for their commitment to fostering non-violent solutions to Kenya’s social issues.

Ambassador Koki Muli received the Columnist of the Year award, while Eric Omondi was honoured as Social Activist of the Year.

Senator Okiya Omtata, named Social Justice Activist 2024, highlighted the link between peace and development.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo was acknowledged for his contributions to social justice, and Abdikarim Osman was recognized as the Ambassador of No Hate Speech in Politics.

Tom Aosa, head of the National Council of Community-Based Organisations (CBO) in Kenya, stated that the CMA and the council are committed to promoting professionalism in mediation.

“This will help decongest prisons and reduce government costs, giving hope to young people incarcerated for petty crimes that could be resolved through mediation,” Aosa added.
