"After reviewing the CCTV footage on Thursday, they established that a stranger who was dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers had entered the church hall on Tuesday at around 6:30 pm when a few congregants were still attending prayers," stated Kimaiyo.

The police boss added that the stranger proceeded to the upper gallery before descending to the altar, removed the statue of Jesus Christ, and took it to the upper floor gallery.

Kimaiyo said that in the event, the stranger undressed and then defecated on the face of the statue of Jesus Christ and after he was done, he covered the faeces with tissue paper and placed the soiled statute under one of the benches in the church before he left.

"The motive of the incident is still unknown as nothing else was destroyed or stolen at the said premise," he said, adding that investigations have begun to identify and pursue the suspect so that he can be arrested and arraigned in court to face the charges of committing offensive conduct.
