Summary of Gachagua's defense at impeachment hearing

1. Charges that the Deputy President was involved in the  Sh3.7 billion mosquito net tender from KEMSA through a proxy firm: 

"I had no involvement in the KEMSA  Sh3.7 billion tender. The claim is false, and the tendering process was conducted independently."

2. Renovations of Official Residences:

"The funds for renovations were approved by Parliament, and I had no involvement with the contractor, Agrobriq Investments Ltd."

3. Payment to Lusona Events Limited:

"I have no knowledge of this company. I am neither a director nor a shareholder, and I had no role in any financial transactions."

4. Payments to St. Nicholas Rehabilitation:

"I am not aware of any payments made to this company. I do not oversee financial transactions within the Deputy President’s office."

5. Lady Justice Esther Maina:

"My actions against the judge were legal, as permitted by the Constitution under Article 168(2). I filed a legitimate complaint with the Judicial Service Commission."

6. Vipingo Beach Road Construction:

"The road to Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy, which King Charles III was scheduled to visit, was upgraded for his state visit, benefiting the local community."

7. Contradicting the President on Evictions:

"I fully supported the Cabinet decision on Nairobi River evictions, but I insisted on humane compensation after learning that residents were being offered only Kshs. 10,000, which was inadequate."

8. Interference with Nairobi City County:

"I did not incite citizens. I asked the Governor to listen to the grievances of traders affected by the relocation of markets."

9. Meetings on Alcohol and Drug Abuse:

"I have worked hand in hand with governors to address alcohol and drug abuse without interfering with county mandates."

10. Criticism of National Intelligence Service:

"My comments were made in good faith, pointing out intelligence lapses related to public dissatisfaction with the Finance Bill 2024."

11. Allegations of Dividing the Nation with Shareholding Concept:

"The power-sharing agreements in Kenya Kwanza are legal, based on the Political Parties Act. They ensure fair political representation and development across regions."
