Jimi Wanjigi freed on Sh10m bond

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi and his Personal Assistant, David Kibe, have been released on Sh10 million personal bond each as they await a decision on whether they will face charges.

The pair appeared before Magistrate Susan Shitubi, who will decide on September 12 whether they will be charged with illegal firearm possession.

The magistrate also ordered Wanjigi and Kibe to surrender their passports to the court.

The defendants were represented by lawyers Paul Muite, Kalonzo Musyoka, Willis Otieno, and John Khaminwa.

Earlier, their legal team requested a postponement of the plea-taking, citing alleged violations of previous High Court orders.

Wanjigi, a former presidential candidate, was arrested on Monday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who he accuses of violating court orders during his detention.

He was held at Kamukunji Police Station overnight before being brought to the Milimani Law Courts.

"The DCI has unlawfully arrested me in defiance of multiple court orders," Wanjigi stated.

Previously, he had been connected to the Nane Nane protests, according to police reports.
