Residents of Getembe estate in Kisii county are in shock after the body of Duke Nyabaro, a teacher cum blogger was recovered in the area.

Local leaders and the residents have called for speedy investigations into the death of the teacher.

Kisii County Commander Charles Kasses said investigations are ongoing to establish whether the teacher was murdered or if it is a case of suicide.

"We have commenced investigations into the incident. A team has been put in place to ensure that we have pieced together every detail," he said.

On Monday morning, the family joined detectives during the postmortem at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.

The deceased's father, Peter Nyabaro and his maternal uncle Joshua Omasire said postmortem results pointed at manual strangulation.

“We are satisfied with the progress the police have made. All that we demand is justice for our son. He was too innocent to be killed. He was married and had two children,” Omasire said as he confirmed that the deceased had been employed by the Teachers Service Commission.

Nyabaro added: “I visited the scene and it is clear that my son was killed elsewhere before his body was loosely hanged.”

Bonchari MP Charles Ochoke said the deceased was his friend and they worked together during the campaigns.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost such a young person. He was a sharp and dedicated person; honest and a promising leader. The police have assured us of speedy and thorough investigations and all we want is prosecution of all those suspected to have been involved in the murder," said the lawmaker.

Eng Joshua Maragia, a resident of Bonchari called on police to intensify surveillance in the area. “Criminals have made the constituency their paradise. All security agencies need to close in on all these criminals,” he said.

The deceased had been active on his social media handles on Saturday evening before his body was recovered Sunday morning.

Saturday evening he posted about Shabana FC's 3-0 win against Posts Rangers. Early on Saturday afternoon, he was seen in the company of friends in his hometown; Suneka. Later in the evening, he joined other friends in Kisii town.

CCTV footage at one of the nightclubs in the town shows the deceased walking out alone.

Minutes later he returned to the club and informed his friends that he had lost his phone and walked out again.

Police sources said the deceased visited his wife’s house; a few meters from where his body was found. He is said to have requested for Sh100 fare to Suneka town.

At the scene, the body was found dangling at a kiosk in Getembe estate with his knees touching the ground.
