A Kenyan-led Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in the United States has suspended meetings in Kenya following political unrest.

The MLIFE Foundation, led by the Kenya-born Mwangi Mukami, said they have suspended all in-person meetings in Nairobi and Kilifi counties.

The foundation supports community activities in health and youth empowerment in the two counties.

“We express deep concern regarding reports of abductions, unjustifiable arrests, and unjust detentions by law enforcement,” said Mwangi.

He said Human '24, MLIFE's Annual conference scheduled for July 31 in Nakuru, has also been suspended.

“The Nakuru meeting was scheduled to be attended by 100 leaders from the US, Ghana and Kenya," said Mwangi in a statement.

The foundation will convene the incoming MLIFE Fellows through Zoom on July 31.

Also, the MLIFE Heritage Tour programme, which brings students from California for a cultural exchange to Kenya planned for between July 26 and August 5, has been postponed.

Mwangi urged President William Ruto to streamline the government to better serve those in need and urgently address corruption and public debt.

“We commend the President for his important decisions, including not assenting to the Finance Bill, Cabinet dissolution, and accepting the resignation of the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome,” he said.

Mwangi affirmed the unwavering commitment to support Kenya and the international community's efforts, including the Ford Foundation, in enhancing Kenya’s democratic space and the right of the people to shape their future through active citizenry engagement, training, and collaboration.
