President William Ruto has pledged the construction of 183 new classrooms, 44 laboratories and dormitories to enhance facilities in 68 schools across Nyamira County.

The announcement, on Monday, August 12, comes during a three-day development tour of Nyamira and Kisii counties.

Addressing a crowd at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Kiabonyoru Secondary School dormitory in North Mugirango, Nyamira County, Ruto said, “Let’s unite to put the county and the country ahead.”

He also committed to inspecting the progress of a new university in Kiabonyoru, North Mugirango, before January.

“We want to ensure children in Kenya, including those in Nyamira, get good opportunities to get education with enough facilities as we are planning to employ 20,000 new teachers before the end of the year,” he said.

The tour marks Ruto’s first visit to the region in eight months, following his recent tour of the Mt Kenya region.

Among the projects expected is a Sh3.4 billion ultra-cancer centre near Kisii School, aimed at improving local healthcare services.

Later in the tour, Ruto is expected to fly to Nyaribari Chache to commission a last-mile power project at Nyang'eni village in Birongo ward.

On Tuesday, the President will launch the Kisii Cancer Centre, visit Kitutu Masaba in Nyamira to inaugurate a Kuwait-funded project at Nyasumi Primary School and oversee the launch of the Sombogo Tea Factory.

He will also commission several roads and last-mile power projects in the area.

The final day of the tour, Wednesday, will see Ruto visit Bomachoge Chache Constituency to launch an affordable housing project in Ogembo town.

He will continue to South Mugirango Constituency to unveil various projects including the Nduru-Nyakorere-Matangamano-Nyabigena road and street lights at Nyamarambe-Gesonso centre.

The tour will conclude with visits to North Mugirango and Borabu constituencies, where Ruto will launch the Ikonge last-mile connectivity and the Amakara-Kineni-Isoge-Kahawa roads.
