President Ruto launches Kenya's foreign policy document

President William Ruto has launched Kenya's Foreign Policy, focusing on economic diplomacy, peacebuilding and regional integration.

The launch took place on Wednesday, November 20, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Ruto said the policy serves as a critical framework for reviewing Kenya's foreign affairs, consolidating the nation's values, and responding to global dynamics. 

It replaces the 2014 foreign policy document, which expired.

"The time has come to dismantle the barriers that have traditionally confined foreign affairs to the Executive. Instead, we must adopt a comprehensive, inclusive, whole-of-government, and all-of-society approach involving Parliament, the Judiciary, civil society, faith-based organisations, youth and women as active stakeholders," said Ruto.

The 2024 policy document outlines clear objectives, identifies emerging trends and proposes responses to global challenges. 

It also includes mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating its implementation. 

Ruto noted the policy is designed to attract investments and secure a broader global presence for Kenya.

"I am happy that we are able to launch this foreign policy document, which celebrates our diplomatic achievements, analyses current and emerging global dynamics, and offers firm strategic guidance on the ways and means of undertaking successful initiatives. Its implementation requires collaboration across all arms of government," he noted.
