The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied reports claiming that detectives attempted to prevent former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.
The DCI on Tuesday, November 12 issued a statement refuting a report published by a local daily, labeling it as false.
The report, published yesterday alleged that detectives tried to stop Gachagua using an unmarked Subaru vehicle.
“These allegations are entirely false and appear intended to misrepresent the DCI's actions and intentions. The DCI operates within the rule of law and remains committed to respecting individuals' liberties and institutional autonomy,” the agency said.
DCI also rejected claims that the media was unable to obtain a response on the issue.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations provided a prompt response, reiterating the agency's commitment to respecting religious institutions’ autonomy. The writer acknowledged receipt of this response,” the statement read.
The agency underscored the importance of balanced, factual reporting to prevent damage to reputations.
The statement followed an article in a local publication alleging that detectives visited the home of the cleric who led the service at Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West, where Gachagua attended with allies.
According to the report, detectives allegedly advised the cleric against hosting Gachagua, claiming it could disrupt peace in the area.
